The greatest urban redevelopment project of the last decade in Torino (the Spina) is the scenario of the project for a transformation of a former industrial building in a shopping mall. The whole area changed his appearance turning from the industrial side to the contemporary residential and commercial one. The importance of this huge urban transformation bring to this area projects from international well-known architects such as Massimiliano Fuksas and Jean Nouvel, giving to this area the status of laboratory of design excellences. The central former industrial building is reconverted by maintaining the main façade as a real mark of the past function, and by lightening the rest of the building thanks to steel and glass structures, with the result of a contemporary building connected and “anchored” to his roots, a perfect example of design process able to balance and manage tradition and innovation.
